“Educate a child according to his way.”
- Proverbs, 22:6
At Providence Hebrew Day School, this timeless principle guides our everyday approach — educating each child according to their unique needs and strengths.
Where Every Jewish Child Belongs
Small Classes,
Big Focus
Parents = Partners
More Than a School – a Community
Guided by principles,
Geared For Life
With a strong foundation in Torah values, our dual curriculum of Judaic and general studies prepares each child for a life of purpose, leadership, and meaningful contribution. Infused with enduring Torah wisdom, their education continues to guide them long after they leave our halls — through high school, college, and beyond.
Learning at Every Level
Families of all levels of religious observance feel welcome at Providence Hebrew Day School, where students are respected for where they are and encouraged to grow. Each child learns at their own level, while gaining a strong foundation in values that serve them well throughout their lives. It all begins with derech eretz (respect), and continues with Torah-guided ethics, morality, and kindness.

Our small classes, typically fewer than twelve students, enhance each child’s individualized support, enabling them to master each subject at their own highest potential. We educate students with a range of learning needs, providing targeted resources in a timely, thoughtful manner.
“The teachers are amazing in how they’re willing to give up their time and breaks to talk to us about anything.”
- A Proud Providence Hebrew Day School Parent
Educating,
TOGETHER
As a Providence Hebrew Day School parent, your relationship with us extends far beyond parent-teacher conferences. Our faculty considers you a key part of the learning team and are readily available to address questions and concerns.

Many of our parents, alumni, and community members actively contribute by serving on committees such as Executive, Education, Budget & Finance, Personnel, Fundraising, and the PTF, allowing families to share their expertise and take part in the school’s continued success.
More Than A School -
A Community
Our connection with families goes far beyond school hours. When a child enrolls at Providence Hebrew Day School, their entire family is welcomed into a warm and growing community. Throughout the year, parents are invited to participate in meaningful, creative, and uplifting experiences that foster connection and belonging. These moments offer opportunities to share values, build friendships, and feel part of something greater. It’s what makes Providence Hebrew Day School not just a school, but a home.
Faculty
Our faculty is committed to lifelong learning. Many of our experienced educators hold master’s or other postgraduate degrees, and Providence Hebrew Day School supports their continued growth with ongoing professional development opportunities throughout the year.

Our Story
Founded in 1946, Providence Hebrew Day School has been a cornerstone of Jewish education in Providence for nearly eight decades. It began operating in its current building in the 1960s and remained the sole Jewish day school in the city until the 1970s.

Today, Providence Hebrew Day School continues to serve as the only Orthodox Jewish elementary school in Rhode Island, and one of the few in New England, offering a strong dual curriculum in both limudei kodesh and general studies for students from Pre-K through 8th grade. Our graduating girls typically continue on to high school at NEAT (New England Academy of Torah), which operates under the PHDS umbrella.

Providence Hebrew Day School is accredited by both the Rhode Island Department of Education and the Bureau of Jewish Education of Rhode Island. We are proud to be an affiliated agency of the Jewish Alliance of Rhode Island and Torah Umesorah, the National Society for Hebrew Day Schools.
