The teaching of values and moral issues is an integral part of our curriculum at Providence Hebrew Day School. We believe that Derech Eretz (proper respect) comes before all learning.
-
Our
students are taught to rise whenever an adult enters the room and, our
teachers utilizes stories of our great sages and Rabbis that emphasize
the development of good Midos (good manners), values, and morals that should be demonstrated at all times.
-
All students and parents receive a copy of our Code of Conduct
, which details the acceptable social and moral standards of conduct
that we require. Our program encourages the individual student to
develop desirable qualities of self-discipline, holds the student
responsible for his/her actions, and protects the student from those
whose behavior continually disrupts an effective learning program.
-
Both our Torah and General Studies’ staff model, recognize and reward good Midos
. Students are strongly encouraged to engage in regular acts of charity
and concern for others. As such, our students are involved in
activities such as visiting the elderly in local nursing homes and
raising money for worthy charities through varied student-organized
activities.
-
Reflecting Providence Hebrew Day School’s emphasis on the development
of good character, we have implemented a very special project in that
regard. Project Derech is a text-based program that focuses on
the biblical laws of respect. This program is completed every few
years, but the outcome skills can be seen in the manner which our
students behave and speak both to adults and each other. This program
is done every few years to teach these important Midos.
